The Haunted Mask isn’t a “bad” party game,
we don’t get to know Carly Beth before we see her pranked, teased and scared constantly and the picture the reader gets is that if these are her friends, she sure doesn’t need any enemies.they’re downright mean, the goal seems to be to embarrass her more than anything else. I think young readers would enjoy
The Haunted Mask, as a whole it is one of the scarier premises of the series but for me personally, this was a flop. I didn’t think the interaction between the friends was indicative of “friend” behavior, it felt mean spirited perhaps if the build up to had been longer and we’d gotten to know the four friends just a bit more, this would have been a better read. Overall, I felt a bit let down, I rate this at three stars because the idea behind it is good, but the execution and character development was really lacking. …
