Pirate costume for boys of all ages

The current market demand for a pirate costume derives from a rich history of pirate stories from our past. A recent American tv show asked the fun question "How many guys in a pirate costume can fit in a shop?". People for fun dressed up in a pirate costume and piled into the shop until it was bursting at the seams.
What's all the fascination with pirates?

Going a little further back in time, Gilbert and Sullivan together wrote the opera the Pirates of Penzance all dressed up in costume, which opened in London in 1880 where it ran for 363 performances. It remains today as one of the most often played operas . The 1981 version in broadway ran for 787 performances

The story goes that Sullivan sent his mother a letter about his new operetta "I think it will be very successful" he wrote, "because it is very funny and the music is beautiful." As per his prophecy, the Pirates of Penzance was an immediate hit in New York and then London

More recently the pirate character appeared as Captain Jack Sparrow a rogue dressed up in a fine costume, played by Johnny Depp who appeared in 3 films :Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man's Chest and a World's End. Depp's performance was so popular that the films helped promote a series of books on the character, based on his younger formative years. The character was then introduced to theme parks rides in 2006, although it was already established as a ride called Pirates of the Caribbean. It didn't take much imagination to retitle it and capture the public imagination in the process.

Our hero can be treacherous and gets through life by using his wits to avoid losing his life. His first mate on the initial film was equally treacherous and was called Hector Barbados. Originally the Captain Jack Sparrow played second fiddle to Will Turner the intended hero, but because his performance was so electrifying the story was eventually written around him as an anti hero. As a result Johnny Depp won an academy award for his performance of the pirate.

Russell Brand may have fallen into good fortune after resigning from the BBC. It is being rumored that Brand could receive £5 million for doning a pirate costume and appearing as Jack Sparrow's brother in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. There's a lot of the Jack Sparrow character in his mannerisms and behaviour. Also Depp's accent is fairly close to Russell's. At the top end of the scale, Johny Depp is supposedly asking for £32 million for his part in the movie. It is not clear yet whether Keira Knightly or Orlando Bloom would be willing to take up their roles again. It could yet lead to another surge in sales for the famous pirate costume if the film is made.
