Harry Potter costume

The Harry Potter character was created and developed over a series of 7 books by JK Rowling.
Harry's adventures begin with him as an apprentice wizard together with his 2 friends Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger. All are studying at Hogwart's school and the first tale is about the evil wizard Voldermot, who we discover, murdered Harry's parents.

After the first book was published in 1997, Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone, the books have grown in our modern day popular culture, and achieved acclaim and commercial success worldwide.
The character has helped drive films, video games and merchandise on a global scale, with the books themselves achieving sales of over 400 million copies.
In July 2007 the last book was published and it alone achieved over 12 million copies in the USA.

As a result of all this activity JK Rowling has become the highest earning writer ever.

The difference between the worlds of other fantasy adventure, for example, is that Lord of the rings is based in the past and Narnia is an alternative world.

Harry's world however, exists alongside ours. So for example, many of the towns mentioned in the books are real and exist today. The theme of the book is that the skills of wizardry are inborn and wizards send their children to school to enhance their skills for use in adult life.

However there are no recognised collge or graduate schools and students are finally considered to be fully trained witches and wizards.Children to these parents who are born with no wizard skills are called squibs.
