it’s pretty much about kids going into a pretend haunted house that there parents take them to.all the kids loved this book.
I started reading this book to my kids when they were both around the age of four. Now they are about six and eight and they still love it. Funny book.

My son and I have read this book over and over and over again. Whether it’s Halloween time or not this book will be a sure favorite of kids’ who like the dark side. Don’t take this to mean that the book is dark or scary. What I mean is that if your kids have a taste for spookies then this book will not fail to please. Great pictures with subtle hidden pictures that show that the spookies and such aren’t real in this haunted house. The text is fun to read outloud to the wee ones.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.

Monday, April 30th, 2007

The first one said, “Oh, my it’s getting late!”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air.”
The third one said, “But we don’t care.”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run, let’s run!”
The fifth one said, “Isn’t Halloween fun?”
Then Woooooo went the wind
And OUT went the lights.
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

My 2 1/2 year old just loves Halloween. It’s only June as I write this and he’s already asking if Halloween is coming soon almost on a daily basis. So when I saw this book at a yard sale I just had to pick it up. This delightful verse that has been around so long is accompanied by cute and spooky illustrations of pumpkins, ghosts, witches, and black cats. Just a delightful and sturdy little board book. Perfect for your little goblin.

Dan Yaccarino captures the essence of Halloween with simple, yet expressive pictures of pumpkins, ghosts and a black cat. My one year old son Ryan loves it when i read the story of the Five Little Pumpkins. He points to all the different pumpkin faces and loves their orange glow. The book wipes clean and withstands being dragged all over the house! I am a big fan of Dan Yaccarino’s work, love his cartoon Oswald, so this book is a big Halloween fun delight!

Skeleton Hiccups is truly an original, and the artwork is the shining star.

The images are creative, and hilarious! S.D. Schindler’s work, the same illustrator of the famed Big Pumpkin, is fresh and creative. For instance, Skeleton’s bed has a headstone headboard with R.I.P. craved into the back. In another scene where Skeleton is shining his bones, the can of polish says, “Ghost White Bone Polish.” I love the absurdity.

In no way are the pictures scary, or upsetting. Margery Cuyler’s writing is simplistic, and appropriate for the very young such as a 2 years old. Older children 6 and above might be amused, but bored. Skeleton Hiccups isn’t a Halloween book per se, but it helped to get us in the mood for the season. My 5 year old adores this book and has slept with it for the last 10 days! A REAL winner in my corner!
My 2 year old loves hearing this book, & he makes the “hic” sound along with me as we read it. Fun & clever. Amusing illustrations & scenes. A great halloween or hiccup book!

This story is entertaining for both adults and kids. As noted in other reviews, the skeleton character is drawn in a friendly light, non threatening, and not scary. There is a lot of humour in this story that both adults and kids will find amusing. My students ask for this story every day, and they are getting quite proficient at reading the story using their own words they are only ages 3 4 . They also really enjoy doing the hiccups, especially acting out the jumping hiccups. This story is repetitive, funny, and many teachable moments can come out of it. A must by!
The rhyme of Five Little Pumpkins is SO easy to read and memorize, the board book holds up very well, and the illustrations are very endearing the jack o lantern faces are expressive and the colors are beautiful. This book made my 20 month old son a jack o lantern fan, and I haven’t gotten tired of reading it to him yet!

Skeletons are a little less scary when they have the hiccups.

This particular skeleton can’t seem to shake them not in the shower nice fuzzy bat slippers! , not while brushing his teeth woops! there goes the bottom jaw! , not while polishing his bones, carving a pumpkin, raking leaves, or even when playing baseball with his friend Ghost. Ghost, instead of Boo ing! away his buddy’s hiccups right away as we might expect, advises Skeleton to hold his breath and eat some sugar and drink water upside down. When he finally does Boo! it still doesn’t work.

But when Ghost finds a mirror and holds it up to Skeleton’s face, he sees his reflection and screams in fright! The hiccups jump away, hic, hic, hic. While it’s novel to see a skeleton eating sugar, drinking water, showering, etc., it may be tricky to find the right audience for this unusual picture book that’s more about hiccups than Halloween.

if you really like mystery or horror or just like getting scared.this is the book for you.

i think it is quite a page turner a real edge of your seat thriller.this book will keep you right on guessing till the end even I was surprised to find out WHO the killer was. this book is the best i diffently recomend you to read this one first if your a first time fear street reader.
when this story was read to them. Adults will get the puns. One of the author’s best

I got this as a gift from my aunt. It is really fun. Great story and Gris Grimly always does the best illustrations. Good for all ages. Especially lovers of Nightmare Before Christmas or other goulish delights.

The wit of Crimi and the excellent artwork of Grimly combine to create a really spectacular, and twisted, love story, of Boris Kleenitoff and Bella Legrossi, two singular inhabitants of booville who realize how perfect Halloween, and life can be, when you compromise for love. Perfect for the child in all of us, as well as lovers of darker humor, such as Edward Gorey and Tim Burton.
Nice book for my Little Bear fan, but a little too short.

I gave this book 5 stars because it is not typical to get a story this sophisticated in board book format. In this sehalloween ries, although the stories are short and sweet, we actually get characters and a plot. In this story, Little Bear is confronted with a troubling moral dilemna, but one that all little kids who mouth the mantra “Mine! Mine! Mine!” can relate to.
